No "Lesser Evil" Deserves the Support of Good Persons

An evil always deserves to be radically condemned. But an apparent "lesser evil" never deserves to be "pragmatically" supported. It should be condemned according to its own measure - if it really is a lesser evil, then it should be condemned less radically, but it should be condemned nonetheless. To defeat evil is to make it thoroughly detestable, even in its relatively milder forms. To make these milder forms even marginally respectable or "pragmatically acceptable" is to pave the way for the emergence of their ever purer counterparts, thus allowing evil to score a major victory.
